Searching for gold - January 18, 2012

Kona winds combed a certain side of the island for an incredible session thru the lens to see the potential some spots may have when the swell is in and the konas are in effect.  Words cannot explain how good the conditions were, and all the spots we checked had not one single person out.  Check out the pics below.  Heaven.

Kona bonahs - January 16, 2012

Fresh kona winds coupled with sizable north to northwest swell opens up a hell of a lot of options. Kelven and I took full advantage of the south winds on Martin Luther King Day and ended up surfing a right that was perfect for dropknee-ing. How rare is it to get south winds like this? Super rare. In fact, annually, southwest "kona" winds hit once or twice a month, but straight south winds happen less than five times a year. The picture below is gold: not a single person out, perfectly groomed with the offshore winds, and 2-4 feet, with a dropping tide. Kona bonahs.
